Sustainability at Del Lago

  • Community

Having a positive relationship with, and impact on, the local community has always been a part of our mission in San Marcos. We have links with several local organizations, including schools, education and arts projects, nutrition programs, and animal charities, all working for the betterment of the community and the lake at large. We have run many fundraisers, provided several scholarships, and have housed many volunteers who have been working with these organizations. For more information on and of these local organizations, please see the ‘Our Friends’ section for links.

  • STAFF

We believe in developing real relationships with all of our indigenous staff, based on mutual respect and a symbiosis. We want Del Lago to be a great place to work as well as to stay!

  • Solar

We have invested in a Solar Energy System, and our cafe lighting and refrigeration is currently all powered by solar. This means that even during the regular power outages experienced in this region we can always keep our food fresh, our lights on, and the music playing!

  • Water Systems

Being a lake front property, we are very aware of our role in helping to protect the lake from pollution. We have developed innovative grey water systems and bio-digestors to ensure that we are not contributing any negative impact to majestic Lake Atitlan. We also have a pump system that can move water from the lake to a huge water tank at the top of the property, ensuring that we are not affected by the water cuts that often happen during the dry season.
